There’s the scavenger hunt aspect of finding each one. There’s the Nosy Parker element too, who doesn’t love peering round other people’s houses?
I’m a regular on the Vancouver Heritage Foundation Laneway House and Heritage House tours, but there’s a new one in town – the Modern Home Tour. This self-guided tour covers seven houses, with a focus on sustainable building practices. Living in a Gold LEEDS-certified building myself, I love seeing how architects tackle this type of structure. You can read more about the tour and the houses on the Modern Home Tour site.
I’m gutted I can’t go this year, but I’m happy to give two of my readers double passes (that’s you and a friend) to check it out for yourselves. The tour runs on Saturday 14 September from 11am to 5pm. You’ll need a vehicle to get everywhere, as it’s self-guided. Pro tip from a house tour nerd: wear shoes you can take off quickly so you’re not doing the one-foot hop whilst people pile up behind you, and bring a bag to carry them in.
Go forth and enter!
Love the tour! Our house was “almost” on it one year. Then we saw the houses that were and were pretty relieved.
Enjoyed the tour before… would love to again this year!
